Sports are a proven way of keeping students engaged with their education. Our academies were founded on a strategy based on a common love of learning and sport, and provide students the opportunity to grow scholastically while pursuing their passions.
Our academy concept is simple: rather than participating in a variety of activities during physical education classes, students can use those credits to devote all their attention to developing their skills in the sport they are most passionate about. All academy students are still required to meet Ontario curriculum expectations in order to graduate, so their education is never compromised. In fact, experience has taught us that students in our sports academies are more fully engaged in their education, and have demonstrated above average rates of credit accumulation and scholastic achievement.
We now have multiple academies that offer a variety of activities in locations throughout Windsor-Essex, and we have employed numerous skills experts to make sure our students are getting the best training available.
Any student in WECDSB has the opportunity to attend an Academy of their choice. They will spend one half the day (either during the morning or afternoon) at the Academy school for their sport specific class and a subject based class. Then during lunch, they will transition back to their HOME school for their subject specific afternoon classes. They will then be able to participate in ALL activities at their respective Home School.
*Transportation is not provided by the Board for shared students back to their home school.*
