Development and Peace

D&PStudents in Catholic schools throughout Windsor-Essex are being challenged to put their faith into action by supporting global and social justice initiatives.

The board recently launched the Development and Peace Schools Program, which consists of a series of world-changing challenges for which schools earn badges for the social justice initiatives they support through their activities.

“We’re trying to get as many schools as possible registered as official Development and Peace schools,” said Emily Lukasik, an animator with D&P who recently visited the Catholic Education Centre to help get the program up and running. “We’re bringing ideas of global and social justice to students to get them engaged in these issues through the lens of their Catholic faith.”

The program includes 20 global justice challenges consisting of such activities as fasting, creating petitions, fund-raising, playing games, making videos, attending retreats, praying, and writing essays - anything that encourages students to think about supporting the most vulnerable among us.

At the end of the year, schools are invited to participate in a year-end online celebration where awards are given out to all participating schools based on their engagement throughout the year.
