ESL elementary students require a special level of care and a welcoming and supportive learning environment.
In our elementary schools, support programs are developed cooperatively between the classroom teacher and our itinerant ESL/ELD teachers to support them in learning the language of instruction at the same time as the Ontario curriculum and are delivered in settings that best support our students and their unique learning needs.
During assessment and orientation, we determine the strengths multilingual students bring and their proficiency in literacy and numeracy skills to provide focused educational supports for them to become confident and capable language learners.

English as a Second Language (ESL) and English Language Development (ELD) programs help students learn English so they can participate fully in the curriculum and school life with their English-speaking classmates.
English as a Second Language (ESL) programs are for students who have had age-appropriate schooling in their home country.
English Language Development (ELD) programs are for students who have had limited prior schooling and have not had the opportunity to develop age-appropriate skills in any language.
NOTE: We also provide high school transition planning for senior elementary ESL students so that they can continue to achieve when they move into secondary school.
