Diploma Program School
Assumption College School is an authorized International Baccalaureate School. The International Baccalaureate Program (IB) is a two-year pre-university course of study designed to meet the needs of highly motivated secondary school students and to promote international understanding. The IB is offered around the world and adheres to challenging standards. All student work is marked internationally using common marking schemes. The International Program at Assumption College School will prepare students for the post-secondary environment while developing a genuine love of learning.

Assumption College Catholic High School offers this program in addition to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. OSSD requirements and courses are integrated with the International Baccalaureate requirements so that upon successful completion of the program, a student is awarded both the IB diploma and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
The IB Diploma program has six major academic areas (see below) as well as:
- a course in Theory of Knowledge;
- the Extended Essay;
- the Creativity, Activity, Service requirement.
Diploma candidates are required to select one subject from each of the six subject groups. Three of the six courses are taken at the higher level (HL), and three at the standard level (SL).
Group 1: Language A: HL English
Group 2: Language B: SL French
Group 3: Individuals and Societies: HL History of the Americas, SL/HL Business
Group 4: Experimental Sciences: SH/HL Chemistry, SL/HL Biology, SL Physics, HL Computer Science
Group 5: Mathematics: SL Mathematics, SL Math Studies
Group 6: Optional: SL Visual Arts or SL Music or Alternative choice made from above
In order to receive the International Baccalaureate Diploma a student must:
- Successfully write IB examinations in six subject areas;
- Successfully complete the Theory of Knowledge course;
- Successfully write an Extended Essay, which is defined as an in-depth study of a limited topic within a subject;
- Complete the Creativity, Activity, Service requirement.
How to register
Students who wish to take IB courses in the final two years of secondary school must apply for admission when registering for high school (grade nine). Students are required to carefully plan their schedules in grades nine and ten so that they have the prerequisites to participate successfully in the International Baccalaureate Program in grades eleven and twelve.
