Our Strategy
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board is committed to providing all students with the opportunity to reach their academic, emotional, physical and spiritual potential in a safe, caring and inclusive school environment.
As part of the WECDSB's Mental Health and Addiction strategy, which includes a proactive, preventative and supportive approach, the Board will strive to:
- promote positive mental health
- reduce stigma associated with mental illness
- build student social-emotional learning skills
- identify students in need
- build pathways to care and treatment
Our Mental Health Plans
We are committed to providing culturally-responsive, evidence-informed programming and mental health promotion, prevention, and early intervention services that respect students as unique individuals with unique needs.
In order to fulfill that commitment, we have created a Mental Health Action Plan for 2024-25 as well as a Mental Health & Addiction Strategy Plan for 2024-2027
These plans were developed to meet the unique needs of our students within the framework of our Catholic values, while providing comprehensive support to students facing various challenges, including anxiety, depression, and stress. Grounded in the principles of compassion, empathy, and understanding, our approach incorporates elements of faith, community, and professional guidance to foster a supportive environment where students feel safe to seek help and support.
You can find both of these plans here:
Finding Help
Challenges with mental health can happen to anyone, you are not alone.
If you become concerned about you or your child’s mental health, it is good to seek help. Your child’s teacher or principal can help direct you to services in the school, board, or community. You may also wish to consult with your family physician or can connect directly with a community mental health agency near you.
