Schools fill four buses with donations

Santa School Bus
Posted on 12/07/2023
santa busChristmas will be much brighter for area families this year thanks to the efforts of 11 Catholic elementary schools that filled four school buses with food, clothing and toys for them.

Their efforts were part of the 9th annual Santa School Bus initiative, which sees schools collect donations for area charities. This year all of the food went to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, while the toys and clothing went to the Children's Aid Society's Adopt A Family program.

"All of our schools take part in special fund raising efforts this time of year to help members of our community, but it's wonderful to see a coordinated effort like this between so many of our schools," said Director of Education Emelda Byrne. "It really speaks to the fundamental lessons that Jesus taught us to help the most vulnerable among us."

The 11 elementary schools that participated this year were Our Lady of Annunciation, St. Mary, H.J. Lassaline, St. Anne French Immersion,
Our Lady of Mount Carmel, St. Andre French Immersion, St. John de Brebeuf, St. Gabriel, St. Christopher, St. Angela, and St Joseph.
The initiative is supported every year by the Windsor-Essex Student Transportation Services and volunteer bus drivers who step up to help the cause, as well as the Windsor Police Service who provide constables to escort the buses to their various destinations and help unload the goods.
