Meet Sabrina Piazza - St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic High School
My School
Villanova was my first choice for high schools from the beginning. Being able to go to a Catholic school has always been important to me. I am proud to be Catholic and to take part in Catholic education on a daily basis. Villanova is filled with opportunity. From academics, to sports, and the arts, there is a chance for everyone to be involved. I have always felt accepted here. The teachers are willing to go out of their way to help in any way that they can, and the students are filled with acceptance and school spirit.
Making a Positive Difference
Positivity can start with something as small as a smile in the halls. I consider myself a very optimistic and open-minded person. I believe that one of the major differences I have made in my school community is through my contributions as a student council executive. School is about education, but it is also about building relationships and enjoying our teenage years. Through student council, I have been able to share my ideas and ensure that students feel included and excited to participate in activities and charitable events. Being a part of the student senate this year at the WECDSB has opened my eyes to various ways in which students can make a positive impact on our school, our communities, and the world.
My Biggest Challenge
My biggest challenge throughout high school was learning to find a balance between school, work, extracurricular activities, and volunteer initiatives, as well as time for family and friends. I love being busy but at the same time, it can be exhausting. Grade twelve has taught me that sometimes it is important to step back and take care of yourself first. It is great to be involved, but having three jobs, volunteering weekly, being involved in multiple extracurricular activities, while trying to maintain a high average can be challenging.
My Accomplishments
When it comes to my faith, I am proud to say that I have been volunteering at my church for the past fives year teaching Sunday school to the children. This is something that I am passionate about and I love doing because I get to interact with young kids.
As for academics, I have received honour roll status every year, as well as subject awards in Music, French, and Math. I am also proud of the fact that I have received early acceptance into both Medical Science and Engineering programs at the University of Windsor and Western.
The person that influenced me most
I truly believe that every person you meet helps shape you into the person God wants you to be. If I had to choose only one person, the person who has influenced me the most throughout high school and my entire life is my mom. She is the most loving, selfless, and kind person I know. She motivates me every day to always do my best and never give up. Although it seems at times like she puts a lot of pressure on me, I would not be where I am or who I am today without her. Thanks mom!
