Making a Positive Difference
My involvement in extracurricular activities is three fold, academically, athletically and musically. Academically, I am the captain of the debate team where I help teach public speaking skills and encourage participation among my peers. Athletically, I started a curling team which will compete in the WECASSA championships in the winter. Musically, I am involved in Jazz and concert band as well as the choir. For two of these groups I compose music and help to encourage musical creativity among my peers.
My Biggest Challenge
The largest challenge I faced in High School was adjusting to the start of Grade 9. Entering a new environment, with new friends and higher academic expectations presented my most difficult time at Assumption. However, the warmth of the school community and the compassion of the staff made the transition very easy and within a week I felt right at home.
My Accomplishments
While at Assumption I have had the opportunity to qualify and compete for the national debate tournament and win top delegate at the CASC Model United Nations In Lansing Michigan. I had the opportunity to serve on the advisory council for the minister of education's student advisory council and participate in the 2016 model parliament. At last years music awards I won Musician of the year.
The person that influenced me most
Without question my greatest influence was my grade 9 music teacher Mr. Zanier. Mr. Zanier assigned a musical composition as an end of the semester project. This project sparked an interest in musical composition that has altered the course of my perceived career and life. Without Mr. Zanier I would not be the person I am today.
