Construction Academy

The Construction Academy is a unique program that provides students with apprenticeship and employment opportunities in the construction industry while providing employers with a new source of workers to address skills shortages. Participating students are given the opportunity to start their apprenticeship while in high school through the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and gain real on the job experience. Specialist High Skills Major Program (SHSM)

The Specialist High Skills Major Program (SHSM) is a ministry approved specialized program that allows students to focus their learning on a specific economic sector while meeting the requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and assists in their transition from secondary school to apprenticeship training, college, university, or the workplace. Cooperative education (COOP)

The Cooperative education, or Co-op, program provides Grade 11 and 12 students with the opportunity to earn High School credits through the completion of a semester-long unpaid work placement.

Co-op programs are designed to meet your individual needs, strengths, interests, and learning styles, preparing you with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to be successful in the future. To find out more about Co-op programs offered by the WECDSB click here.


Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) allows students to explore and work in apprenticeship occupations starting in Grade 11 or Grade 12 through the Cooperative Education program. Students must be at least 16 years of age and have 16 credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diplomas in order to qualify for the program. To find out more about OYAP programs offered by the WECDSB click here.
