Making a Positive Difference
I am involved in the school band, choir, and Peer Ministry. Music enriches school culture by adding a new variety of ways students can express emotion and create art. Peer Ministery looks at helping those less fortunate or needy in the community. This requires a person to reach out to the lonely and bullied in the school, and to participate in food drives around the school. These groups influence future students by allowing them to have a good high school foundation, where they have many opportunities to experience.
My Biggest Challenge
My biggest challenge was coming to high school from being homeschooled. I only had one friend, and they did not take my bus. It was very challenging trying to locate my classes and meet new people, as I was very shy and had no experience in a school setting. Eventually I was able to get settled by asking for help from classmates and teachers. I gained confidence from my classmates and family, and began to talk to many different people, and finally ended up with many great friends.
My Accomplishments
I have been on Principal's Honour Roll for all three years of high school, have become the head community officer and a supporting Provincial Officer in the Columbian Squires, am the godfather of my adopted younger brother, and maintain a 93%+ average.
The person that influenced me most
The person that influenced me the most was my father. He homeschooled me until grade eight, and when I went to high school and achieved reasonably good grades in grade nine, he never stopped encouraging me to do my best. My father is also the person who told me that if I really wanted to, I could do anything. This lead me to run for the Provincial Officer position at the Provincial convention, which was a lifelong dream for me. When I won the position, he told me "See? I told you so". His support will no doubt inspire me to dream big in the future.
