Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the WECDSB

At the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board, we believe AI offers an opportunity to live out our Mission Statement: To Know, To Inspire, and To Empower our students.  By using AI thoughtfully, we’re inspiring and empowering students to engage with this technology ethically, critically and responsibly. AI literacy is a critical skill students need to navigate an ever evolving technological world.  AI is becoming increasingly prevalent; students need to be literate in AI to navigate their future effectively.  Artificial intelligence is an underlying technology that is already built into millions of websites and applications. Our journey with AI is about preparing and empowering our students with the skills necessary to succeed in tomorrow’s world.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board’s Artificial Intelligence Guiding Principles  provide a framework for the responsible integration of artificial intelligence within the WECDSB, which is grounded in Catholic social teachings and aligned with the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board’s Guidelines for Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence for Educators is designed to assist educators in using artificial intelligence appropriately and effectively, particularly generative AI technologies.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Guide for Families is designed to help parents and guardians understand why and how we are thoughtfully introducing AI to enhance learning and prepare students for the future.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board provides every student with a Mytools2go account, ensuring equitable access on any device. These accounts are supported by our partnership with Google for Education, providing enterprise-grade privacy and security.

eLearning

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board offers online courses to complement learning offered in a traditional in-person classroom for secondary students. Through our partnership with Catholic Virtual Ontario (CVO), students gain access to a wide range of faith-based digital courses that fit their unique schedules.

Why Choose eLearning?

eLearning provides WECDSB secondary students with a flexible alternative to the face-to-face traditional classroom. This asynchronous online setting offered through D2L Brightspace can support a student's educational plan when a flexible, alternative learning environment is required, or when matching student preferred learning styles to programming needs.  Students who wish to participate in this program should speak to their Guidance Department.

• Graduation Requirement: Easily fulfill the two mandatory eLearning credits required by the Ministry of Education.
• Scheduling Flexibility: Balance your school day with extracurriculars, work, or other commitments.
• CVO Course Access: Take advantage of diverse online courses offered through the Catholic Virtual Ontario consortium.
