Grade 8 students looking to get a head start on their high school diploma have a great new option this summer.

The Reach Ahead Summer School program runs from July 2-26 and includes a variety of course offerings that will help students transition to high school.

“This is an excellent way for Grade 8 students to earn their first high school credit, get familiarized with their high school environment, learn some new skills, and make some new friends all before the new school year begins in September,” said Dan Fister, Executive Superintendent of Experiential Learning and Innovation.

The courses are being offered at eight high schools and include such options as computer engineering, construction, healthy living, hospitality and tourism and exploring technology, which in some cases cover automotive, carpentry and culinary arts.

Course offerings vary from school to school, so students should go here to see a complete list.

Applications are due before May 31. Students should contact their elementary school principal to apply.
