A great new resource has been created to help parents support their children in their learning at home while schools are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Built by the board’s Information Technology team, the WECDSB Parent Portal brings together commonly used instructional apps like Google Classroom, Google Meet and Seesaw in one central location.

“Between working at home and trying to help their kids with their school work, we know that many parents are overwhelmed right now,” said Superintendent John Ulicny, who oversees the board’s IT team. “We wanted to provide a tool that would make it a little easier for them to understand how our teachers and support staff are educating their students while schools are closed.”

Knowing how teachers work and understanding the online tools they’re using is a great way for parents to offer additional support to their children while they’re at home, added Doug Sadler, the IT Principal who helped develop the new portal.

“The tools in the Parent Portal are the same ones that teachers are using,” Sadler said. “In addition to those tools, we’ve provided a great wealth of digital content resources that will help stimulate learning. We certainly hope parents find this useful and would welcome any feedback they have on how we can improve it."
