The Living Lab Volunteers
The Lab would be hard to maintain without the hard work of our dedicated volunteers. Read about a typical meeting of the Villanova Living Lab Club.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, as soon as the final bell rings, a few Villanova students head to room 228 to do what they love to do- take care of the animals in the Living Lab.As soon as everyone gets settled, the work is started. There's lots to be done- students are in charge of:
- cleaning and filling water bowls,
- misting cages to boost the moisture levels,
- chopping vegetables for the herbivores and omnivores,
- powdering crickets with vitamin supplement, and cleaning waste products out of cages.
- If it is time to feed the snakes, their prey must be prepared.
After all the initial work is done, there is time for some extra fun, such as:
- Refurbishing cages with different flora to make it more appropriate or stimulating to a particular species,
- Taking the animals out to give them exercise and human interaction,
- Brainstorming for different ways to raise funds for the Lab,
- Planning out activities for upcoming events.
All the students share a common love for reptiles, and each of them has a particular favourite. The meetings are supervised by Mr. George Cuckovic or another Science teacher.
The Villanova Living Lab Club always welcomes visitors who wish to help out once in awhile. The current list of volunteers who have consistently shown their dedication to the Lab this year are: Melissa Dumouchelle (Head volunteer), Colin Cooper (second-in-command), Thaddeus Gorski, Darryl Hicks, Jill Soucie, Francesca Baggio, Terran Fader, Chantal Laframboise, Ashley Castonguay, Daniella Marier, Chris Pook, Steven Hill, Nicole Heynsbroek, Brandon Fasan, and Steve Hughes.
