Box Turtle
Researched by Kayla Trevail
Common Name: Eastern Box Turtle
Scientific Name: Terrapene carolina carolina
Where it Lives: This particular box turtle lives throughout the United States, and into northern Mexico. They need to acces both water and woody grassland areas.
What it Eats: The turtles are omnivorous when young, but adults eat mostly vegetables.
Interesting Facts: Scientists believe that many cold-blooded animals, especially turtles and tortoises, can live almost forever (well, one hundred years, at least), as they show no signs of aging as they get older.
The Living Lab's Box Turtle: This shy little turtle has also been a long-standing resident of the Living Lab. While she prefers to burrow and hide, she has charmed many. A former student nicknamed her Princess, and the name has stuck.
